Live from the courtroom: In the final hours of his testimony, Serial Shooter suspect Dale Hausner has been laying out all sorts of alternate theories for the mounds of evidence against him.

The gunshot residue found inside his car? “When we would go shooting in the desert, we would be close to the car,” Hausner said. He speculated that when he turned on the air conditioner in his car, the residue was sucked into the ventilation system and ended up coating parts of the inside of his car. Either that, Hausner said, “or Mr. (Samuel) Dieteman, without my knowledge, used my car to gun down Raul Garcia and Robin Blasnek.”

“Those are the only two ways I can think of that that would happen,” he said.

Hausner is being questioned by his lead attorney, Ken Everett, and continues to vehemently deny any involvement in the 87 crimes of which he is accused.

Often, he has been blaming Dieteman for the evidence. Dieteman testified against Hausner last month, saying the two of them cruised the Valley on numerous nights in the summer of 2006, shooting random victims.

“I’m not a killer,” Hausner said. “I have not shot and killed anybody in my life — or any animals — and I have never been with anybody when they did it.”

Hausner also somewhat tried to implicate his brother, Jeff Hausner, in some of the shootings. Jeff Hausner is currently serving a prison term after being convicted of stabbing a man, and Dieteman testified that he heard the Hausner brothers talking about some of the early shootings. It potentially makes him the third serial killer suspect in the case, though authorities have not charged him with any shootings.

“You do not know the whereabouts of your brother on any dates on ’05 or ’06. Would that be fair?” Dale Hausner’s attorney asked his client.

Hausner said the statement would only be somewhat accurate. He and his brother went to a Rick Springfield concert during that time. They also hung out on several evenings. “Maybe that would be one day a month, but generally I would not know where my brother is,” Hausner said.
